Former Chelsea Academy Goalkeeper Nicolas Tié Joins French Army at 24

FRANCE – Former Chelsea academy goalkeeper Nicolas Tié has officially left football behind, joining the French army at the age of 24.
Tié, who trained alongside stars like N’Golo Kanté, Antonio Rüdiger and Olivier Giroud, never made a first-team appearance.
As reported by Ouest-France, Tié revealed that he had lost his passion for football and decided to pursue a new career.
Tié left Poitiers at just 13 to join Chelsea’s academy, featuring in youth-level competitions but never earning a first-team spot.
A move to Guimarães in Portugal followed, but he once again struggled to break into the senior squad.
Eventually, he opted to end his professional football career, explaining that he no longer felt the same passion for the sport.
His decision to enlist in the military was influenced by a lifelong interest in the profession, shaped by his stepfather’s role as a parachutist in Ivory Coast.
Seeking an active, physically demanding career, Tié explained that he could not see himself working a desk job.
As reported by Yahoo Sports, the former goalkeeper also expressed his willingness to serve in overseas military operations, including Ukraine.
He stated that he prefers addressing issues directly and is prepared for external operations if needed.
Tié’s career shift reflects the growing trend of athletes transitioning into new professions outside of sports.
While his football dreams did not unfold as expected, his determination to embrace a new challenge highlights his resilience and commitment to serving in a different field.
