Former Boxer “Mosquito” Zvenyika in Tears as Pacific 24HR Offers Free Care for Sick Wife

Former boxer Alfonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika was moved to tears after Pacific 24HR Hospital offered free medical help for his sick wife.

Zvenyika’s plea for assistance was first published in H-Metro.

In a statement, Dr. Michael Mandaza of Pacific 24HR Hospital said he believes “the corporate world should work together with communities and the government to support vulnerable members of society.”

He confirmed the hospital would provide “free medical consultation, assessment, treatment support, and help her recover,” and added, “If ordinary X‑rays and scans are required, the hospital will cover the cost to ensure she receives the necessary care.”

Responding to the hospital’s offer, Zvenyika said he was humbled by the support and that “it brought me to tears.”

He thanked Pacific 24HR Hospital authorities and staff “for listening to me, supporting me, and wiping my tears,” and said, “I feel humbled by the gesture and I wish them more grace from God.”

He asked that the hospital’s kindness not stop with him: “Zvandaitirwa izvi ngavasagumira pandiri chete asi vaitirewo vamwe nepavagoneswa na Mwari.”

Zvenyika also addressed negative online comments, saying, “I read the negative comments targeting my wife and I was not moved. I have forgiven my wife and everyone else.”

He used a boxing metaphor to describe his commitment: “In the boxing ring, you can fall down but you cannot remain down. You stand up, I will stand with my wife until death separates us, and that is what I vowed to do on our wedding day.”

He added, “I am a sinner and I am seeking God’s face. To those calling me names, it is their time. Among them are some youths who are yet to experience married life and need guidance.”

Quoting scripture, he referenced the story of the woman caught in adultery: “In the Holy Bible, the woman who was caught having an adulterous affair, none of her accusers was found innocent.”

He closed by noting the persistence of mockers: “As for mockers, they are always there and they will never stop mocking until the second coming of Jesus Christ. I thank God for saving me.”
