From Gary to Pinjisi: Another Life Lost Waiting for Care as #FixOurHealthSystem Trends Again – Zimbabwe is mourning the painful loss of Sungura artist Tatenda Pinjisi, whose tragic final moments captured in a viral hospital video have sparked national outrage.

In the heartbreaking clip, Pinjisi—visibly suffering after a horrific car crash—pleads for painkillers while lying on a hospital bed.

A woman responds softly, promising to alert the nurses. Sadly, relief never came.

The crash, which happened near Norton last Friday, k!lled two of his band members and a woman who had joined them after a Harare Showgrounds performance.

Though Pinjisi survived the initial impact, he d!ed two days later from his injuries, allegedly without receiving adequate care.

Social media exploded with grief and anger, with many Zimbabweans calling his d€ath preventable.

“Painkillers. Just painkillers. That’s all he asked for,” one user posted.

Another wrote, “Tatenda didn’t die in the accident—he d!ed waiting for help.”

Echoes of Gary Mapanzure’s D£ath

Pinjisi’s death mirrors that of Afropop singer Gary Mapanzure, who died in October 2023 after a car crash in Masvingo.

Gary also survived the impact but died hours later due to lack of emergency care at a government hospital.

Both cases have reignited calls for healthcare reform under the trending hashtag #FixOurHealthSystem.

Social media has been awash with grief and anger.

Here’s how some Zimbabweans are reacting:

@Shamiso_Mpofu:

“Another star gone because of our broken hospitals. Tatenda’s voice still rings in my head. This isn’t just a tragedy — it’s negligence!”

@Tawanda_Rusike:

“Just like Garry, Tatenda didn’t die in the accident — he died waiting. Waiting for medicine, for care, for a miracle in a hospital with no soul.”

@Nyasha_Blessed:

“Painkillers. Just painkillers. That’s all he needed to ease his suffering. How is this still happening in 2025?”

@ZimCultureWatch:

“Tatenda’s death is a mirror. Garry Mapanzure, Dr. Mthabisi, even Francis Chingono — how many more must we lose before something changes?”

@LeratoZvangu:

“I feel helpless watching that video. He was still fighting. But our system doesn’t fight for us.”
