Fake Soldier Nabbed Inside Military Base in Kenya

Fake Soldier Nabbed Inside Military Base in Kenya –  Kenyan authorities have arrested a man who posed as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier and sh0ckingly lived within the highly secured Embakasi Garrison.

The suspect, identified as Willington Kimutai Kipyegon, was found in possession of a fake KDF identification card and military uniform suspected to have been obtained from a dismissed soldier.

Kimutai’s charade came to an end on Sunday when security officials at the Embakasi military base intercepted him while attempting to gain unauthorized access.

The military confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations are underway and all matters are being handled in line with protocol.

This is not Kimutai’s first run-in with the law. He has a pending court case after being arrested in 2021 for possessing a fake firearm.

He was released but failed to appear in court in 2022, prompting the issuance of a warrant of arrest.

For years, he had managed to evade the authorities — all while allegedly infiltrating a restricted military zone.

On Tuesday, Ruai Sub County Criminal Investigations Officer Benard Yugi confirmed that his team had gone to retrieve the suspect from Kilimani Police Station, where he was initially held.

The officers are working with military personnel to collect evidence for court proceedings.

The arrest has raised serious concerns about possible internal assistance that may have enabled Kimutai’s access to the barracks.

Security agencies are now under pressure to uncover if any insiders helped the impersonator stay hidden in plain sight.

This incident follows another bizarre case last month where a man in Uasin Gishu was arrested for establishing a fake police patrol base.
