FC Platinum Fans Involved in Fatal Bus Crash After GreenFuel Match
A bus transporting FC Platinum supporters was involved in a serious road accident Saturday evening, approximately 25 kilometres from Chiredzi, while returning from the team’s away match against GreenFuel in Chisumbanje.
The vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux, resulting in the Hilux driver’s death at the scene.
Although all bus passengers survived, several sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical centres for treatment.
The accident occurred just hours after the Zvishavane-based side clinched a dramatic 1–0 win, sealed by Jarrison Selemani’s stoppage-time free kick.
What should have been a night of triumph quickly devolved into grief, casting a heavy shadow over the club’s morale.
This tragic event follows a series of misfortunes that have rocked the FC Platinum family.
Late last month, midfielder Brian Banda lost his life in a separate car crash near Filabusi after a Proton Bakeries vehicle overturned while attempting to avoid a head-on collision. That accident claimed two lives.
Days later, winger Oscar Bhebhe was also involved in a separate incident that left him with a broken arm.
The latest crash has prompted renewed calls for improved travel safety protocols for both players and supporters attending Premier Soccer League fixtures across the country.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
