Fake Doctor Arrested After Woman Dies During Illegal Throat Procedure in Chitungwiza – A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 51-year-old woman who died during an alleged procedure to remove a growth from her throat in Chitungwiza.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the suspect as Douglas Mutore (40) and the deceased as Magret Gwamura (51).

According to police, the incident occurred on 24 September 2026 at a house in Unit D, Seke, Chitungwiza, where Mutore performed the procedure using a surgical blade.

Gwamura reportedly died during the procedure, after which Mutore allegedly fled the scene.

Police who attended the scene recovered surgical instruments, blood-stained bandages and used medication.

Investigations subsequently established that Mutore was not in possession of valid practising certificates at the time of his arrest.

The ZRP has since urged members of the public to verify the credentials of anyone offering medical services and to seek treatment only from registered medical practitioners and recognised health institutions.

Police have also encouraged the public to report suspected cases of illegal or unauthorised medical practice to the relevant authorities.
