Zimbabwe Celebrates Milestone Gas Discovery

In a fantastic turn of events, Zimbabwe has officially announced the discovery of gas by Australian-listed company Invictus Energy Ltd.

The Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Soda Zhemu, issued a statement on Thursday, confirming this exciting find in northern Zimbabwe, where Invictus has been hard at work drilling two exploration wells in search of precious oil and gas.

According to the statement, this gas discovery in Zimbabwe is a significant milestone, as it represents the first Triassic-aged hydrocarbon found in Sub-Saharan Africa. The exploration efforts have yielded four hydrocarbon samples, recovered to the surface from two separate zones in the Upper Angwa, using the wireline formation testing tool. These samples meet important international standards, and further confirmation of gas and fluid properties will be obtained through laboratory testing.

Currently, Invictus Energy Ltd is engaged in additional appraisal and evaluation work to determine the size and quality of the gas reservoirs. This ongoing assessment aims to establish an optimal development plan for these resources.

Importantly, Zhemu emphasized that the confirmed discovery pertains to gas alone, and the presence of oil is yet to be confirmed by both the Zimbabwean government and Invictus.

Both the government of Zimbabwe and Invictus have emphasized that further exploration, tests, and evaluations are still underway to ascertain the presence of oil. The statement assures that Zimbabwe will be kept informed and updated on all developments related to this oil and gas exploration project.
