Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager turned into a footballing spectacle as Manchester City swept aside Liverpool 3–0 in a dominant display at the Etihad Stadium.
Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico González, and Jeremy Doku sealed a statement victory that underlined City’s ruthless edge and Guardiola’s enduring genius.
The match began with City in full control, dictating tempo and movement with their trademark precision.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute, bursting through Liverpool’s backline to slot home with trademark composure.

The Norwegian’s goal set the tone for a first half that showcased City’s tactical discipline and intensity.
As the clock ticked into first-half stoppage time, Nico González doubled the lead with a calm finish in the 45th minute plus three, punishing Liverpool’s lapse in concentration just before the break.
Any hopes of a Liverpool fightback were dashed midway through the second half when Doku capped a sensational personal performance with a goal in the 63rd minute.
The Belgian winger tormented Liverpool’s defense all afternoon with his pace, skill, and confidence on the ball.
City defender Ruben Dias praised the collective effort after the match, telling Sky Sports:
“We live for games like this. Everyone did a great game.
“The amazing game Jeremy Doku did, the sprint Haaland did to compensate these are the details that make us win so much.”
Dias also reflected on the spirit within the squad:
“There are new faces, but the quality stays the same, and we keep on pushing. It is still early in the season, feet on the ground.”
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, whose disallowed goal could have changed the game’s complexion, admitted frustration but refused to dwell on officiating decisions.
“In football the officials decide the key moments and we have to deal with it on the pitch,” he said.
“We lost 3–0 and that is a big blow. Doku had a good game and it was difficult for Conor Bradley at times. We have to find consistency and carry on.”
For Guardiola, the milestone match was a celebration of longevity, vision, and dominance.
The victory keeps City firmly in contention at the top of the Premier League, and if this performance is anything to go by, the reigning champions look ready to extend their dynasty even further.
