Curse or Coincidence? Mutasa Family Haunted by Footsteps, Deaths Every Three Years

A family in Mutasa District is gripped by fear following years of unexplained deaths and eerie disturbances, which they believe stem from a spiritual curse.
Clayton Magura recently summoned several relatives before Chief Mutasa’s community court, accusing them of refusing to help resolve the crisis that has haunted their homestead since 2009.
He explained that the strange occurrences began after consulting a prophetic healer.
“This has persisted for years, with no solution,” Magura told the court.
According to him, his uncles dismissed the concerns, attributing the mysterious footsteps to ancestral visits.
“Their response was unsettling. Instead of offering help, they spoke of ancestral visits. That is why I have brought them before this court today,” he added.
The alleged curse reportedly began when Magura constructed a house at the family homestead.
Bricklayers complained that one brick mysteriously disappeared each morning.
“Despite our efforts, we could not identify the culprit,” he noted.
The house has remained unoccupied for five years following warnings that anyone who stays there would die.
Magura went on to describe further disturbing incidents.
After his wife gave birth, the baby’s umbilical cord vanished without explanation.
“Despite an extensive search, we assumed it had been misplaced. However, six months later, we found it on our bed.
“That is when we realised that something was seriously amiss at our home,” he recounted.
In another incident, two large snakes were found coiled around their child in the kitchen.
“My wife’s swift reaction saved the baby, as she rushed to grab our child. The snakes slithered away into a hole,” he recalled.
A year later, his brother attempted to cleanse the homestead by sprinkling anointed water, but the snakes reappeared the next morning.
Since 2009, the family claims to have suffered a series of unexplained deaths affecting both adults and children.
“It appears that every three years, death inevitably strikes. We believe these tragedies are connected to the mysterious footsteps and hauntings,” Magura stated.
His elder brother, Walter Magura, backed the claims.
“I have lost two children to these spiritual attacks. Each time, the deaths occur without warning, and our elders attribute them to ancestral calls.
“But how can our ancestors harm their own children? We need genuine answers,” he questioned.
In a bid to find help, Clayton summoned five relatives — Saul, Morgan, Timothy, Sylvia, and Joseph Magura to court, accusing them of refusing to assist in seeking spiritual intervention.
“If they are so knowledgeable, they should help us consult healers. I will not fold my arms while my family members are dying with elders remaining mum,” he insisted.
However, some of the summoned relatives claimed they barely knew Clayton or had never discussed the issue with him.
Saul, a Harare resident, responded, “I do not even know him. We were introduced today. He has never discussed these issues with me.”
Morgan echoed similar sentiments,
“I stay far away from him, and have no knowledge of the footsteps or snakes he claims. This is the first time I am hearing about these issues.”
Joseph also distanced himself from the matter,
“I have nothing to do with these problems. If there are indeed mysterious footsteps, they should be thoroughly investigated. However, I cannot provide answers for things I have not witnessed myself.”
Timothy acknowledged that Clayton and Walter had approached him.
“Yes, they shared their worries with me. I advised them that this issue requires a collective effort from the entire family. We are currently working towards finding a solution.
“I firmly believe that we must come together as a family and seek proper spiritual guidance,” he affirmed.
Chief Mutasa reprimanded the family for their disunity and urged them to act collectively.
“This issue demands your undivided attention. Regardless of whether the footsteps are ancestral or malevolent in nature, you must confront it together as a family.
“The recurring deaths warrant your unity,” he warned.
The matter was adjourned to a later date, leaving the Magura family to reflect on the chief’s advice and consider a united path forward.
