Court Denies Bail to Ex-PSL Duo in Drug Trafficking Scandal

KWEKWE – Two former Premier Soccer League (PSL) players have been denied bail following their arrest in connection with a major drug trafficking case.
Reuben Mhlanga and Abbas Amidu appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing charges related to the possession and transportation of a large consignment of dagga.
The duo was intercepted last week along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway after police acted on a tip-off about suspected drug movement.
Officers recovered 750 kilograms of dagga concealed in a silver Honda Shuttle, with an estimated street value of US$75,000.
Authorities believe the former footballers played a central role in coordinating the trafficking operation.
The consignment was reportedly headed toward Harare, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the network involved.
According to B-Metro, the case has drawn widespread attention due to the suspects’ sporting backgrounds and the scale of the seizure.
The court denied bail, citing the seriousness of the offense and the risk of interference with ongoing investigations.
The matter has been remanded for further proceedings.
