Chivhayo Wades into War with Mahere, Labels Her Party “Failed Opposition”

By Loyd Matare

Controversial business tycoon Wicknell Chivhayo has found himself at the center of a heated dispute with opposition politician and lawyer Fadzai Mahere over circulating documents on social media, which Chivhayo vehemently denies as “blatant forgeries” designed to tarnish his reputation.

Chivhayo, widely known as Sir Wicknell, has vehemently denied the circulating documents that allegedly requested a significant increase in monthly cash withdrawal limits from Ecobank.

Taking to his X account, Chivhayo denounced the documents as forgeries, claiming they were part of a smear campaign orchestrated by Mahere and other opposition figures from her “failed opposition party.”

“Desperate and shameful…my attention has been drawn to some appalling and amateurishly forged letters circulating on social media, falsely alleging that I requested increases in the maximum monthly withdrawal limits for accounts purportedly held at EcoBank,” Chivhayo stated.

Chivhayo, who has been linked to several high-profile business deals in Zimbabwe and beyond, accused Mahere and others of being driven by “bitterness and ulterior motives” to tarnish his reputation.

“It is clear that this smear campaign is the well-orchestrated work of individuals driven by bitterness and envy, as they have dismally failed to achieve what I have accomplished through my regional business engagements and philanthropic efforts,” he said.

Chivhayo further alleged that Mahere, who was “rejected by her own fractured opposition political party” and is “desperate to regain relevance,” was behind the forgery.

“I have received credible reports that she unlawfully scanned my authentic signature from previously signed affidavits and fraudulently replicated it on the fabricated letters circulating on various social media platforms,” Chivhayo claimed.

Mahere has not publicly responded to Chivhayo’s allegations. However, sources close to the matter indicate that the opposition politician may take legal action against Chivhayo for defamation.

The spat between Chivhayo and Mahere has sparked intense debate on social media, with some users backing the businessman’s claims of a smear campaign, while others have expressed skepticism about his denials.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Chivhayo has made it clear that he will not be intimidated.

“I will always support President E.D. Mnangagwa and ZANU PF’s vision, and no individual from any planet, no matter how big or small, can instill any fear in me to decide otherwise,” he declared.

Chivhayo also took a swipe at Mahere and other opposition politicians, saying they are motivated by jealousy.

“We can never all be equal, especially when you do not put in the effort to work hard, if you are not brave enough to knock on high-doors, or innovative enough to create business opportunities that develop our beloved nation of Zimbabwe,” he said.

This comes as the social media has been abuzz with documents circulating on social media, which appear to be a request to increase the maximum monthly cash withdrawal limit on an account held by Eden Breeze Pvt Ltd with Ecobank. The request cites secured government contracts valued at USD120 million as the reason for the request.

Chivhayo has dismissed the documents as forgeries, but the controversy has raised questions about his business dealings and relationships with the government. As the dispute continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how it will impact Chivhayo’s reputation and business interests.
