Chivayo Pledges US$1 Million to Chevrons Despite India Defeat

Chivayo Pledges US$1 Million to Chevrons Despite India Defeat – Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged US$1 million in cash to the Zimbabwe national cricket team despite their 72-run defeat to India, which ended their semi-final hopes.

Posting on X, Chivayo wrote:

“Whatever the final outcome will be for the CHEVRONS CRICKET TEAM… subject to approval by the PRINCIPAL I already owe them 1 million USD in cash on their return.”

He praised the team’s campaign, adding:

“Beating very strong teams like Australia and Sri Lanka as well as qualifying into the TOP 8 can not just go UNNOTICED… Good luck against INDIA today.”

Zimbabwe’s standout performer was 22-year-old opener Brian Bennett, who scored an unbeaten 97 in a spirited chase.

“I think Jasprit is always going to be a tough one to face,” Bennett said after the match. “My thought process was just watch the ball as close as I can and just let my body do the actions.”

Zimbabwe fielding coach Stuart Matsikenyeri described Bennett as a rare talent: “The sky is the limit for Brian… It’s scary that he’s only 22.”

Though eliminated from the semi-finals, Bennett’s tournament tally of 277 runs in five innings has been hailed as a sign of Zimbabwe cricket’s promising future.
