Chitungwiza Man Commits Su¡cide after Suspecting & Beating Wife for Ch£ating – A 47-year-old man from Savanhu Village under Chief Seke has died following a domestic dispute with his wife, in a tragic case linked to domestic violence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning after the man, identified as William Charakupa, allegedly accused his wife, Hilda Masama (45), of infidelity. Police say the argument escalated, and the woman was seriously assaulted at their home.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident, saying the woman sustained severe injuries and lost consciousness.

According to police, the couple’s 17-year-old daughter, Tadiwanashe Charakupa, later discovered her mother unconscious and bleeding. Believing her mother had died, she alerted neighbours for help.

A neighbour, Peter Mugadza (46), rushed the injured woman to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where she is receiving treatment. Her condition was described as critical.

Police further confirmed that the man later died, and his body was taken to a mortuary for post-mortem examinations as investigations continue.

Inspector Chakanza strongly condemned domestic violence and urged members of the public to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.

“We continue to encourage people to avoid violence, as it destroys families and leaves children vulnerable. When disagreements arise, couples should seek help from elders, counsellors, religious leaders, relatives, or the police instead of resorting to violence,” he said.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
