Zimbabwean student gets police officers’ help amid distress in India
The DishaSOS app demonstrated its effectiveness in promptly assisting and safeguarding a distressed foreign student in Visakhapatnam city.
The student, hailing from Zimbabwe and pursuing post-graduation studies at Andhra University, utilized the Disha app to seek help when faced with inappropriate behavior from a fellow Zimbabwean.
The incident unfolded late at night when a Zimbabwean man visited the student’s residence near Krishna College in the city and subjected her to verbal abus.e and harassment. Fearing for her safety, the victim sent an SOS through the Disha app.
In a remarkable response, local police arrived at the scene within five minutes, apprehended the individual responsible for the altercation, and successfully rescued the student.
Following the young woman’s advice, the police provided counseling to the man and allowed him to leave.
The Zimbabwean student expressed her deep gratitude for the Disha app, which she had downloaded during her time at Andhra University the previous year. She commended the local police for their swift response, even in the middle of the night, and lauded the government for introducing an efficient and responsive legal system. Times of India
