Cassius, record-breaking largest crocodile passes away at 120
In a poignant farewell, Cassius the world’s largest crocodile passed away at the remarkable age of 120. Measuring 18 feet in length and weighing over a ton, this iconic creature leaves behind a legacy of transformation.
Cassius was previously viewed as a formidable menace off the coast of Cairns, Queensland where his attacks on boats and cattle raids became legendary.
In his later years, he found a new home at Marineland Melanesia’s Green Island Crocodile Habitat where he became a beloved resident, honored with a special tribute.
Marineland Melanesia shared the heartbreaking news of Cassius’ passing on Facebook this weekend after health issues began affecting him on October 15.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mate Cassius”.
“To us, Cassius was more than a crocodile – he was a beloved family member, a devoted friend to George and a source of joy for 37 remarkable years.”
“After 52 wonderful years on Green Island, George moved to Cairns, leaving behind his Marineland home to begin life in an assisted care residence.”
“Cassius may be gone, but his love and legacy will forever remain in our hearts”, the statement adds.
The outpouring of love and shared experiences from fans underscores Cassius’s profound impact on those who knew him.
