Car Thief Steals Vehicle With Child Inside Then Flees After Crash
MASVINGO – A daring car thief in Mucheke suburb stole a Honda Fit with a five-year-old child inside, later abandoning the vehicle after an accident.
The incident occurred when Tarisai Hokonya (38) briefly stepped into her house, leaving her car parked outside with her daughter inside.
Seizing the opportunity, the suspect entered the vehicle and sped off.
Upon returning, Hokonya found both her child and car missing, prompting immediate panic.
According to Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the suspect abandoned the child approximately fifteen minutes after stealing the car.
Crying but unharmed, she was found near Runyararo Primary School by concerned residents.
Police launched a manhunt for the stolen vehicle and suspect.
According to The Herald, the car was later discovered near Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre, extensively damaged in an accident.
The suspect had fled the scene after stealing the car’s battery and a Samsung cellphone that was inside the vehicle.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and urge residents to stay vigilant against rising car theft incidents.
