Bulawayo City Council says routine tests show the city’s water is largely safe for residents.
The council’s latest water quality and environmental pollution report says 67 samples were collected from designated points and sent to Criterion Laboratory for analysis.
Director of Health Services, Edwin Mzingwane Sibanda, confirmed that results for 52 samples have been received, with 15 still pending.

“Out of the 52 water samples, 47 (90%) were negative for faecal coliforms, 35 (67%) were satisfactory with respect to non‑faecal coliforms, and 49 (94%) samples were satisfactory with respect to total plate count,” the report states.
The report adds that 30 samples (58%) were satisfactory across all three bacterial parameters.
“The 52 samples were also tested for pH and turbidity and were found to be 100% satisfactory for the two parameters,” it reads.
The findings suggest that Bulawayo residents can continue using tap water safely while awaiting results from the remaining 15 samples, which will provide a more complete picture of the city’s water quality.
