Botswana Government Denies Granting “Public Holiday to Arsenal Fans”

Botswana Government Denies Granting “Public Holiday to Arsenal Fans” – The Government of Botswana has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Arsenal supporters were granted a public holiday following the club’s English Premier League triumph.
In a statement issued through the Botswana Government communication channels, authorities clarified that the widely shared document announcing a special holiday for Arsenal fans was not authentic.
The fake statement, which quickly gained traction online, falsely claimed that President had declared a day off for Arsenal supporters to celebrate the club’s 2025/26 EPL title victory.

According to the fabricated notice, Arsenal fans across Botswana were supposedly allowed to take Wednesday, 20 May 2026, off from work to celebrate the club’s success. The statement further encouraged employers to support the celebrations in recognition of football’s role in promoting unity and national pride.
However, the Botswana Government has now firmly denied the claims, stating: “NO, THERE IS NO HOLIDAY FOR ARSENAL FANS.”
The clarification comes after the fake press release spread rapidly across social media platforms, with many football supporters debating whether the announcement was genuine or simply satire.
Arsenal’s Premier League success has sparked celebrations among fans worldwide, including in Southern Africa, where the club enjoys a massive following. However, Botswana authorities have urged the public to verify information before sharing unofficial government statements online.
