Blood on his hands: Gweru son accused of brutalizing mother remanded in Prison

GWERU – A 23-year-old Gweru man has been remanded in custody pending sentencing for a brutal attack on his mother, leaving her with severe injuries, in a shocking case of domestic violence.

The accused, whose name has been withheld to protect the victim’s identity, appeared before Gweru Magistrate’s Court facing charges of domestic violence.

According to State papers, the accused returned home intoxicated on November 18, 2024, and launched a vicious verbal attack on his mother, accusing her of disliking his wife.

The situation quickly escalated, with the accused threatening to kill his mother before striking her repeatedly with an iron rod.

The complainant sustained severe injuries, including a deep cut on her forehead and left eye.

She was also stripped naked as she attempted to flee.

Neighbors intervened, rescuing the complainant after she screamed for help.
