Bergvall’s Late Goal Gives Tottenham 1-0 Win Over Liverpool

Lucas Bergvall scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, helping Tottenham defeat Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
The 18-year-old’s goal was his first for the club, but it came under controversy as he was lucky to stay on the pitch after a late tackle on Kostas Tsimikas went unnoticed by the referee, Stuart Attwell.
The incident happened just two minutes before Bergvall’s goal. Many Liverpool players were upset that he did not receive a second yellow card for the foul.
Tsimikas needed treatment after the tackle, leaving Liverpool with only ten players on the field. Tottenham took advantage of the situation when Dominic Solanke set up Bergvall to score, frustrating the Reds.
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, was visibly upset about the referee’s decision. He said the missed call had a big impact on the game.
Slot mentioned, “The decision he made had a lot of impact on the result tonight.” Captain Virgil van Dijk echoed these feelings, stating that it was clear Bergvall should have been sent off. He added, “While I’m not saying this cost us the game, it was a significant moment.”
In contrast, Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, did not share the same sympathy. He pointed out that his team had faced similar situations recently and stated, “He wasn’t lucky; those are the rules.”
The match ended with Tottenham taking a narrow lead into the second leg of the semi-final, setting the stage for an exciting return match against Liverpool.
