Avenging Spirit demands 195 Cattle for 2008 Murder

In a bizarre case blending cultural tradition and justice, an avenging spirit (ngozi) has demanded 195 cattle from seven men accused of murdering Tencen Chikwaramiti in 2008.

The demand was confirmed at a traditional court presided over by Mambo Chiduku, following a confession from one of the perpetrators, village headman Isaac Gandi.

Gandi revealed that he was informed by village policeman Enias Nyawu that someone had been caught moving cattle at night. Upon arrival, Gandi found Chikwaramiti severely beaten by Nyawu, Brian Dhakazhe, Aaron Matope and Changadzo Watiwanana.

The group took Chikwaramiti to the police, joined by Stanford Mujuru and Shingirai Chifamba. Gandi admitted that everyone continued assaulting Chikwaramiti with fists, kicks, and switches along the way.

Chikwaramiti succumbed to his injuries that night. The seven men then divided his seven cattle among themselves.

Gandi admitted to trying to silence the vengeful spirit with charms and holy water from apostolic sects. But his attempts only seemed to fuel the spirit’s wrath, which continued to haunt his family.

At the traditional hearing, Village headman Gandi presented 28 cattle as the initial offering, with 11 coming from his personal herd.

The avenging spirit, channeling through a relative, accepted the proposed arrangement, granting a two-day extension to deliver the remaining cattle, while cautioning against further delays

“Delay is costly, every passing day will add to your debt.”

Gandi identified Brian Dhakazhe as the next individual to face the Ngozi’s demands, holding him accountable for his role in the 2008 murder.

The court emphasized that the reparations must be completed by all seven men to restore peace.

Mambo Chiduku stressed the importance of respecting the spirit’s demands. “Respecting the spirit’s demands is key to healing and harmony.”
