Alleged Armed Robbery Kingpin to Plead Guilty, Faces Multiple Charges

Clever Chada, a member of a notorious gang of armed robbers, has stunned a Harare court by announcing his intention to plead guilty to two counts of robbery and one count of illegal possession of explosives.
Chada, who is facing a total of seven-armed robbery charges, made the surprise revelation when he appeared before regional magistrate Tilda Mazhande.
“I will plead guilty to two of the robberies and another count of illegal possession of explosives recovered from my car,” Chada told the court.
His decision to plead guilty is a significant development in the case, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
The prosecution alleges that Chada and his gang carried out a series of daring robberies at Mukuru Money Transfer agencies in Harare, using firearms and explosives to intimidate their victims.
The gang’s alleged crimes include the robbery of US$1,839 and R2,350 from a Mukuru Money Transfer booth in Glen View, as well as the theft of US$950 and other valuables from a client.
Chada’s arrest came after a tip-off was made to the police, who searched his car and recovered three Thunder T90 explosive dynamites, one Emex explosive dynamite, and detonator cables. The police also found that Chada did not have a valid license to possess the explosives.
The case has sparked widespread concern about the safety of businesses and individuals in Harare. The prosecution is being led by Anesu Chirenje, who appeared for the State.
Chada’s decision to plead guilty will likely have significant implications for the case, and the court’s verdict will be closely watched.
