Alexio Kawara Roars Back: A Soulful Reboot After Silence
Alexio Kawara is back—and not just back, but boldly reclaiming his place on Zimbabwe’s music scene with a soulful, high-energy performance that reminded fans why he remains a household name.
The Afro-jazz sensation lit up the Zimbabwe German Society on Friday night with a show aptly titled “Reboot”, marking his official return to the stage after more than a year away.
Despite the winter chill, fans turned up in impressive numbers, ready to vibe with Kawara and his band, Shades of Black.
From timeless hits like “Musikana Akanaka” and “Tinodanana” to the beloved crowd-pleaser “Shaina”, the artist delivered a nostalgic yet fresh set that had the audience singing along and dancing through the night.
After the show, Kawara opened up to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub about what the night meant to him.

“The Reboot was something else. I’d especially like to salute the fans. It’s not every day that you receive such support after a long time away from the music scene,” he said.
“The music continues. We have more shows lined up and some new music planned for release. While we don’t have specific dates yet, there’s no stopping now.”
For the better part of the past year, Kawara had taken a step back from the spotlight—a decision, he says, driven by spiritual reflection and personal growth.
“I’ve mainly been working on myself spiritually. I recorded some new songs, but I felt I wasn’t ready to release them until now.
“I have a few singles planned as we build up to an album release next year.”
Balancing his life as a musician, minister, and businessman hasn’t been without challenges, but Kawara is clear about his mission.
“Kufa kwemurume kubuda hura. I’m called to minister through music, which is also my career. I’ve resolved that my music will intentionally focus on building people; I believe that, too, is ministry.”
His last public performance had been in August 2024. He also addressed a cancelled show that left fans disappointed.
“The cancellation was due to a previous show that hadn’t gone well. We needed more time to recover and plan properly.”
The seasoned artist also reflected on his journey since becoming a born-again Christian, emphasizing the growth that has come with his renewed faith.
“I’m now more focused and grounded in God’s word. My career is becoming more professional because of how God has been shaping me.”
From reflection to resurgence, Alexio Kawara is moving with purpose and fans can rest assured, this reboot is only the beginning.
