Teen Dies in Suspected Suicide After Money Dispute in Odzi

An 18-year-old boy from Odzi in Manicaland has died in a suspected suicide case after a domestic dispute reportedly erupted over missing money.

The deceased, Leyson Tawananyasha Kunjenjema of Ndemera Farm, Romeo, was at home on April 26, 2026, around 10:00 a.m., with his mother, Naome Kunjenjema (55), and his sister, Marvelous Kunjenjema (31).

Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said Naome discovered that a cash box containing US$460 was missing while cleaning her bedroom.

She questioned both her children, but they allegedly denied any involvement or knowledge of the money’s whereabouts.

After the confrontation, Leyson reportedly went into his bedroom and closed the door. Shortly afterward, his sister became worried and checked on him, only to find him hanging from a roof beam.

The family attempted to provide first aid before taking him to Old Mutare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A report was filed with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)in Odzi. His body was later taken to the Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police said a note believed to have been written by Leyson was found at the scene, but it reportedly did not contain clear information.
