476,000-Year-Old Wooden Structure Found in Zambia Rewrites Human History

Scientists have discovered a 476,000-year-old wooden structure at Kalambo Falls in Zambia, changing what we know about early human life.

The structure was buried deep underground and preserved by wet conditions, which stopped the wood from decaying — something that rarely happens over such a long time.

Unlike the usual stone tools found from that era, this discovery includes wooden items such as a wedge, digging stick, cut log, and a notched branch.

Experts say these objects show early human ancestors were already planning and building structures long before modern humans (Homo sapiens) existed.

The discovery, reported in Nature, challenges the idea that early humans only used simple stone tools during the Stone Age.
