29 Drown in Manjuzu Rituals
In just three months, 29 people drowned across the country while swimming, fishing, performing rituals, and bathing. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the cases, explaining, “Victims were engaged in activities like swimming, casting fishing nets, participating in Manjuzu rituals, and bathing.”
One incident on July 7 in Domboshava involved a person drowning during Manjuzu rituals at Garimo River. A month later, on August 20, another victim drowned while casting nets at Harzel Dine Farm Dam in Karoi. Just eight days later, a swimmer drowned in Chilonga River, Kamativi.
With summer and the rainy season approaching, Nyathi urged the public to be more cautious around water bodies. “We ask everyone to follow safety measures when near water, whether fishing, swimming, or engaging in rituals,” he said.
