Zvishavane Mother Battles Deadly Illness Alone, Pleads for US$1 500 to Stay Alive
ZVISHAVANE – Jerina Tsvangira, a 33-year-old mother of three from Zvishavane, is pleading for US$1 500 to undergo open surgery at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.
She suffers from a worsening abdominal condition that causes fluid buildup, leaving her unable to care for her children or continue working.
Her husband abandoned the family when her health deteriorated, and she now survives on weekly fluid drainage and community support.
The condition, which began earlier this year, has grown more severe over time.
Tsvangira receives free weekly fluid drainage at Zvishavane District Hospital — a procedure that was initially done monthly.
The increasing frequency signals a decline in her health and an urgent need for surgical intervention.
Zvishavane Town Council chairperson Takarangana Keta described her situation as heartbreaking.
“She has three minor children and they are under the BEAM program at school.
Her husband ran away abandoning his family when her condition deteriorated.
“Our local hospital is draining the fluid from her body for free on a weekly basis. Tsvangira was a vendor and now she cannot fend for her children,” said Keta.
Despite local efforts to support her, the required funds remain out of reach.
Her children now rely on handouts from well-wishers, and the community continues to appeal for financial assistance to help her access the surgery she urgently needs.
Well-wishers who wish to assist can contact Jerina Tsvangira directly on 0777445521.
