Zvishavane Man Duped Out of US$15000 in Elaborate ‘Chadonha’ Scam

A 43-year-old man from Zvishavane fell victim to a sophisticated scam, losing US$15,000 to a gang that lured him with promises of sharing a “discovered fortune.

The incident unfolded on November 19 when Wellington Nhiwatiwa (46) and seven accomplices targeted Luckson Daka shortly after he disembarked from an Inter-Africa bus.

The scammers staged a scene, tossing a bundle of fake cash in front of Daka, convincing him it was a massive windfall.

They led him to Harare’s Kopje Mountain, where another group posing as police officers “searched” his belongings. The fake officers seized Daka’s US$15,000 and vanished.

Nhiwatiwa appeared in court yesterday facing fraud charges.

He challenged his placement on remand, with a ruling expected Thursday. Meanwhile, his accomplices remain at large.
