ZRP Releases Names of Chivhu horror crash victims

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five people who died in a horrific road traffic accident along the Chivhu–Nyazura Road last week.

The tragedy occurred on 24 October 2025 at the 73-kilometre peg when a haulage truck carrying cement rammed into a Toyota Hiace carrying twelve passengers, killing five on the spot.

ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the development, saying investigations were ongoing.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 73-kilometre peg along Chivhu–Nyazura Road on 24th October 2025 when a haulage truck hit a Toyota Hiace vehicle from behind,” said Commissioner Nyathi in a statement.

“Five people died while eight others sustained serious injuries and were taken to Murambinda Hospital for treatment.”

The deceased have since been identified by their next of kin as:

  1. Takunda McGregor Ndoro (29) of Mt Pleasant Heights, Harare who was the kombi driver
  2. Juliet Chikasha (58) of Southlea Park, Harare
  3. Juliet Makunike (25) of Burma Valley, Mutare
  4. Taurai Manyewu (51) of Epworth, Harare 
  5. Muzonda Marumbei (94) of Nyamande Village, Buhera.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating another fatal accident that occurred two days later, on 26 October 2025, along the Harare–Masvingo Road near Mvuma.

In that incident, a Nissan Caravan travelling towards Harare with seven passengers on board overturned twice and landed on its left side, killing two people instantly and injuring four others.

Commissioner Nyathi urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads, especially during long-distance travel.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should be observant and avoid speeding or reckless driving to safeguard lives,” he said.
