ZRP Postpones 2025 Commissioner-General’s Road Race Without Explanation

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has postponed the 2025 Commissioner-General of Police’s 21-kilometre Road Race, which was set to take place today, 29 March 2025, at Mkoba Teacher’s College in Gweru.

The last-minute announcement has left participants and stakeholders seeking clarity about the reasons for the decision.

In a statement, National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the postponement but did not provide a specific reason.

He assured the public that online registration for the event would continue as planned and details of a new date would be communicated in due course.

Commissioner Nyathi expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support of ZRP’s sports programs.

There has been speculation that the postponement may be linked to planned mass protests by war veteran Blessed Geza on 31 March, although no official confirmation has been made by the police.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), former Member of Parliament Fadzayi Mahere criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the postponement. She questioned the consistency of cancelling the race while advising the public to proceed with their normal routines.

Mahere emphasized that clarity from the ZRP is essential to enable effective planning by individuals and organizations.

Athletes experiencing challenges with online registration are advised to contact Hyper Nation Crew via Givemore at 0783 323 127 or Shingi at 0774 366 481.

Alternatively, Superintendent Chiumukoko can be reached at 0772 421 189 for further assistance.

The ZRP has reiterated its commitment to developing sports and maintaining public trust.
