ZRP Officer Caught in Dirty Deal Over Fake Fine Receipt

ZRP Officer Caught in Dirty Deal Over Fake Fine Receipt – A police officer, Constable Last Taguta (33), has been arrested and dragged to court on corruption charges after he allegedly forged a receipt to pocket US$25 from a fine.

Taguta, who is stationed at Chikanga Police Station in Mutare, appeared before Mutare Magistrate Tendai Mahwe last Friday. He was granted US$100 bail and is expected back in court on April 22.

It is alleged that Taguta dishonestly wrote US$30 on the official fine receipt book used for traffic violations but only recorded US$5 on the carbon copy, which goes into police records. He then pocketed the remaining US$25.

The state is being represented by prosecutor Joyce Tinarwo.

According to the court, Taguta, a resident of 5288 ZIMTA Park in Mutare, was on duty with Constable Kudzanai Chabuda when they arrested Oswald Makoni (33) for operating an illegal transport service using a Honda Fit (registration AEL 7693) on March 4 around 10 AM.

The officers took Makoni to ZRP Chikanga Police Station, where Taguta allegedly told him he was required to pay a US$30 fine. Since Makoni didn’t have the money at that moment, Taguta impounded the vehicle and instructed Makoni to go find the money.

When the payment was eventually made, Taguta issued a receipt reflecting the full US$30 to Makoni but fraudulently entered only US$5 on the official copy, taking the remaining US$25 for himself.
