ZRP joins forces with National Anti-Stock Theft Unit to safeguard Chikombedzi livestock

CHIKOMBEDZI – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has taken a proactive stance against the alarming rise in livestock thefts by joining forces with the National Anti-Stock Theft Unit to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign yesterday in Chikombedzi.

The recent event at Chief Mpapa’s residence marked a crucial step in tackling the escalating issue of livestock theft which poses a significant threat to the community’s economic stability, food security and cultural heritage.

Assistant Commissioner Fredrick Mbengwa, the National Anti-stock theft Coordinator has called on local communities to form village anti-stock theft committees led by the village headman to develop Constitution-compliant regulations aimed at effectively combating stock theft.

“Combating stock theft requires collective action, starting with village anti-stock theft committees, chaired by village heads to develop Constitution-aligned rules.”

“Maintaining law and order relies on you to exercise citizen arrest powers responsibly by prioritizing restraint, apprehending suspects peacefully and bringing them to the authorities,” he said.

Chief Mpapa applauded the ZRP’s efforts in building a strong harmonious relationship with the village, encouraging sustained cooperation to benefit the community.

“Unity is our greatest weapon, let’s maintain the police-village partnership to ensure a safe and secure community,” said Chief Mpapa

Police efforts have yielded significant results, with the recent apprehension of multiple thieves and the successful recovery of 120 stolen goats showcasing their unwavering commitment to community protection.
