The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five of the seven victims who died in the Inter Africa Bus accident that occurred early Sunday morning on the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The accident took place at the 330-kilometer mark when the bus, carrying 43 passengers, collided with the back of a stationary Freightliner truck around 3:30 AM.
Seven people died at the scene, and 22 others were injured. Among the injured, six were treated and discharged, while 16 were admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital for further care.
The identified victims are:
– Mutanga Brian, an adult male from Bocha, Marange
– Manyise Madubeko (45), an adult male from 4th Street, Bulawayo
– Ncube Sinqobile (43), an adult female from Xanti Village, Esigodini
– Muchemwa Matienga (62), an adult male from Lasper Road, Harrisvale, Bulawayo
– Mafukidze Edmen Collin (39), an adult male from Overspill Epworth
The identities of the remaining two victims have not yet been confirmed by their next of kin.
In a related incident, Commissioner Paul Nyathi reported another traffic accident that occurred at approximately 1:30 AM on Sunday at the 72-kilometer mark along the Harare-Wedza Road.
In this accident, the driver of a Nissan pickup was killed, and a passenger sustained injuries when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a stationary Scania truck carrying three passengers.
