Zirkzee May Face Ban for Inappropriate Gesture in United’s Win

Joshua Zirkzee’s celebration during Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Southampton may get him in trouble with the Football Association (FA) after he made an inappropriate gesture during the game.
The incident happened as United came back from a goal down at Old Trafford, thanks to Amad Diallo’s amazing hat-trick. Diallo scored three goals in just 12 minutes, including two late goals, helping the team secure the victory.
While his teammates celebrated, Zirkzee was seen grabbing his crotch while facing the crowd, a gesture that has caused problems for other players in the past.
For example, Jude Bellingham was fined £25,000 and given a one-match ban for a similar gesture during Euro 2024. Cristiano Ronaldo also received a one-game ban for gesturing towards fans while playing for Al Nassr, and he was fined €20,000 for copying a famous celebration in 2019.
Zirkzee came on as a substitute in the second half, replacing Rasmus Hojlund. Despite the changes, it was Diallo who stole the show, becoming the second youngest player in Manchester United history to score a Premier League hat-trick, following Wayne Rooney.
After the match, Diallo shared his excitement in an interview: “In football, you have to believe, and we believed until the end. We are very happy to win this game. We felt confident after our draw with Liverpool and our win against Arsenal.”
He added, “This week might be one of the best of my life. I’m really happy we won; we deserved it. We know we have good players, but we need to be more hungry in front of the goal. I’m ready to play any position the manager wants—wing-back, No. 10, whatever. I’m excited to fight for this club and thrilled to score a hat-trick.”
