Zimbabweans Can Now Access Presidential Internet in the Comfort of Their Rural Homes

Zimbabweans Can Now Access Presidential Internet in the Comfort of Their Rural Homes – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has unveiled the Presidential Internet Scheme, a bold initiative designed to deliver fast and reliable broadband connectivity to every corner of Zimbabwe.
The launch took place during the vibrant Children’s Party held at Nyamuroro High School in Nembudziya, Gokwe.
The scheme is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, and will target all 2,400 administrative wards throughout the country.

The ambitious rollout includes the deployment of 2,000 Starlink internet devices to schools, clinics, and police stations in remote and underserved regions.
Minister of ICT, Tatenda Mavetera, highlighted the strategy behind the initiative. “We realised the need to move beyond traditional fibre networks and embrace low-earth orbit satellite technology to fill the broadband gap, particularly in marginalised areas,” she said.
“This programme will ensure that all Government departments, schools, courts, and clinics are digitally connected.”
A recent broadband mapping exercise conducted by her ministry revealed significant connectivity shortfalls in rural communities, prompting the push for satellite and fibre-based solutions in collaboration with companies specialising in these technologies.
Beyond digital access, the President also launched school business units at Nyamuroro High and Nyamuroro Primary Schools. These include gardens, fish ponds, and solar-powered boreholes, forming part of the broader Presidential Rural Development Programme aimed at transforming rural communities into hubs of economic productivity.
Marking 45 years of Zimbabwe’s independence, President Mnangagwa led pupils and top officials in a symbolic tree planting ceremony, planting 45 trees to commemorate the milestone.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Torerayi Moyo expressed the gratitude of the nation’s children. “From school feeding schemes and subsidised exams to infrastructure investment and digital learning platforms, learners are seeing the positive changes firsthand,” he said. “These efforts are creating opportunities for every child to dream, learn, and thrive, regardless of where they come from.”
