Zimbabwean Twins in Netherlands Accused of Scamming Friends & Former Schoolmates Craig and Carel Chirara, Zimbabwean twins based in the Netherlands, have come under scrutiny after multiple allegations surfaced on a Zimbabwean community platform on Reddit, where several individuals accused them of borrowing money and failing to repay it.
The twins, who completed high school in Zimbabwe in 2016, attended different schools, with Carel studying at St John’s College and Craig attending St George’s College.

One alleged victim, who says he knew Carel from high school in Harare, shared his experience online, claiming the twins befriended him after he relocated to Rotterdam.
“When I moved here, they greeted me and my partner with open arms, inviting us over to their place and telling us stories about their lives over the years we had been disconnected. They really emphasized how happy they were to have people they knew from back home in their lives,” he said.
According to the complainant, the friendship later took a different turn when Carel allegedly requested financial assistance.
“One day, similar to the others, I got a phone call from Carel telling me a story about issues with his international account. He needed money transferred to his account and said he would give me cash. Luckily, it was only €600,” he alleged.
The alleged victim said he agreed to help because he trusted his longtime friend.
“I thought I was helping my friend of 12 years out. And who would try to dodge paying back a friend who knows where they live?” he said.
He further claimed that concerns grew after he came across online posts from other people reporting similar experiences. Matters escalated when a friend he had introduced to the twins allegedly revealed that Craig had also approached him for money.
“He said Craig had called him, claiming he had been hacked and needed assistance. He then went on to ask him for €400,” the complainant said.
The alleged victim said he later contacted several people introduced to him by the twins and was shocked to discover what he described as a pattern of similar incidents.
“It’s horrifying to see two young Zimbabwean men with so much potential waste it this way. Shame on you!” he said.
The allegations have generated widespread discussion online. However, Craig and Carel Chirara have not publicly responded to the claims, and the accusations remain unproven allegations that have not been tested in court.
