Zimbabwean Family Haunted by Mysterious Fires & Money Vanishing from Phones– A family from Chirasavana Village under Chief Seke in Mashonaland East says they are living in fear after being tormented by mysterious fires that start on their own, destroying property and burning down homes.

According to Mrs. Ellah Chiengerere (48), who hails from Chirikiti under Chief Neuso in Sanyati and is married in Mhondoro, the ordeal began in 2021 and has followed them from one place to another.

“As a family, we have suffered a strange problem where fires just start on their own inside our houses, burning furniture and clothes — even items placed in wardrobes or dishes,” she said.

Mrs. Chiengerere said the first incident happened on May 14, 2021, at her parents’ home in Unit M, Chitungwiza, where her two children were staying. They initially believed it was caused by electrical faults, but the fires continued even after moving to a new rented home in Unit K.

“The same thing happened again and again — until we realized this was no ordinary fire. It later followed us to our rural home in Chirasavana and burned everything, including wardrobes, kitchen units, beds, clothes, pots, and plates,” she explained.

The mysterious fires later spread to her sister’s houses, also destroying all belongings.

Besides the fires, the family claims that large sums of money and food mysteriously disappear from their home and mobile money accounts.

“My father once lost US$1,400 that he had brought home while he was ill, and another US$245 funeral contribution vanished from the house. Even money sent through our phones disappears without explanation,” she said.

Food such as meat is also said to vanish, with strange text messages appearing on their phones saying, ‘We took your meat because we want to be like you.’

Mrs. Chiengerere said the family even receives mysterious messages from unknown numbers claiming responsibility for taking their belongings. Some messages accuse one of her two children of being involved in witchcraft or satanism, urging them to chase the child away.

“The boy once suffered severe burns on his legs, and we were later told through messages that this same strange force caused it. The child is now traumatized and once ran away to Mhondoro,” she said.

Mrs. Chiengerere, who works as a cross-border trader in South Africa, said her family has been left with nothing — no furniture, no clothes, not even blankets.

“We have lost everything. At one point, my marriage almost collapsed because of these strange events. We are told that some close relatives are behind it and want to initiate one of my children into satanism. I just want help to end this nightmare,” she pleaded.
