Zimbabwean Fake Nurse Who Treated Patients With Google Diagnoses Sentenced in UK for £170,000 Fraud

Zimbabwean Fake Nurse Who Treated Patients With Google Diagnoses Sentenced in UK for £170,000 Fraud – A Zimbabwean man, Ashton Guramatunhu, has been jailed for more than three years in the United Kingdom after posing as a registered nurse and illegally earning over £170,000.
Guramatunhu (46), of Middlepark Road in Dudley, appeared at the Liverpool Crown Court where he was sentenced to 40 months in prison after pleading guilty to fraud by false representation.
According to evidence presented in court, Guramatunhu signed up with a Warrington-based nursing agency in late 2014, using the identity of a legitimate registered nurse.
He later worked in six care homes across northern England between 2015 and 2019, earning an estimated £172,921.

The fraud was exposed in January 2019 when the real nurse received an inquiry from the Nursing and Midwifery Council about an incident at a facility he had never worked at. Police investigations later confirmed that Guramatunhu had falsified his qualifications and identity.
Detective Constable Naomi Sargent, who led the inquiry, condemned Guramatunhu’s actions saying:
“Guramatunhu should never have been working as a nurse. He put innocent patients at risk purely for his own financial gain. The sentence reflects the severity of his actions, and I hope it serves as a warning to others who may consider such dishonest behaviour.”
Authorities also revealed that although Guramatunhu had attended university, his criminal record rendered him ineligible for work in the care sector.
