Zimbabwean e-hailing driver arrested for stealing R650 000 from sleeping passengers
SOUTH AFRICA – A dramatic turn of events unfolded in Simons Town, South Africa when a 30-year-old Zimbabwean e-hailing driver was arrested for allegedly stealing R650 000 from unsuspecting passengers who fell asleep during their ride.
Authorities apprehended an e-hailing driver earlier today for allegedly defrauding passengers during a ride.
It is alleged that a harrowing e-hailing experience unfolded on November 5 when a 21-year-old Danish tourist and his two companions fell asleep during a nighttime ride from Cape Town to Simons Town.
It is claimed that the driver seized the opportunity to steal a passenger’s credit card details which his European-based brother then used for luxury purchases at exclusive fashion boutiques.
Sergeant Henry Simons swiftly responded by booking a ride with the same driver, keeping the operation undercover.
Using a police station phone number to avoid arousing suspicion, he successfully maintained secrecy until the driver’s arrival at the court building where officers promptly stepped in questioned him and arrest him.
