Zimbabwean Driver in Ireland Fined After Crash Cuts Power to 1,200 Homes – A Zimbabwean man living in Ireland, 35-year-old Tennyson Dube, has been fined and banned from driving after a high-speed crash that left nearly 1,200 homes and businesses without electricity in County Monaghan.
Dube lost control of his vehicle and struck an ESB pole on Kingscourt Road, bringing down power and phone lines. ESB officials later confirmed damage amounting to nearly €60,000.

He fled the scene on foot, leaving his female passenger—who later received treatment for a fractured rib—behind.
In court, defence lawyer Niall Fox said Dube had “panicked” and made a “silly decision.” Judge John Brennan noted that Dube had been “very unfortunate” but emphasised the disruption caused, stating that “the whole power of Carrickmacross” had been affected.
Dube was fined €600 in total and disqualified from driving for two years.
