Zimbabwe Ranks Third in Africa for Most Expensive Diesel – Zimbabwe has been ranked third in Africa for the highest diesel prices as of May 2025, trailing only behind the Central African Republic and Malawi.

According to global fuel price data, diesel in Zimbabwe is currently selling at US$1.520 per litre, placing the country 42nd globally in terms of diesel costs.

At the top of the African list is the Central African Republic, where diesel goes for US$2.117 per litre, making it the fifth most expensive in the world.

Malawi follows in second place on the continent with a price of US$1.577 per litre, ranked 34th globally.

In stark contrast, Libya offers the cheapest diesel in Africa, at just US$0.03 per litre, thanks to heavy government subsidies.

Within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Angola boasts the lowest diesel price at US$0.33 per litre.

On the global scale, Hong Kong leads with the highest diesel price worldwide, selling at US$3.35 per litre, more than double Zimbabwe’s rate.
