Zimbabwe Donates ARVs to Botswana

Zimbabwe Donates ARVs to Botswana – Zimbabwe has extended a helping hand to its neighbour, Botswana, by sending a consignment of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.
On 29 October 2025, Zimbabwe dispatched the life-saving medication through the National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) under a dual arrangement: 20% of the consignment was donated, while 80% was provided as a loan to be repaid later in kind.
The symbolic handover ceremony was witnessed by Botswana’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Sarah S. Molosiwa, alongside NatPharm Managing Director Newman Mazikwa, who expressed hope that the gesture would strengthen bilateral ties between the two Southern African nations.
“This act demonstrates the spirit of ubuntu and cooperation that binds our countries,” Mazikwa said, noting that the move underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to supporting regional health systems despite domestic constraints.

Ambassador Molosiwa also thanked Zimbabwe for its generosity, describing the donation as a “true reflection of neighbourly love and African unity.”
The trucks carrying the ARVs departed Harare for Gaborone amid optimism that the exchange will mark a new chapter of collaboration in addressing shared health challenges across the region.
This humanitarian gesture comes at a time when Zimbabwe itself continues to grapple with periodic drug shortages in public hospitals according to reports.
Nonetheless, the government insists that partnerships of this nature are essential in building resilience and promoting sustainable access to essential medicines within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
