ZETDC Introduces Mandatory Generator Inspection Fees: Up to $100 for Compliance – The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has introduced mandatory inspection fees for electrical installations and generators to enhance user safety and ensure compliance with national electrical standards.

In a public notice, ZETDC announced a US$25 fee for general inspections and re-inspections of electrical installations.

Additionally, generator owners will be required to pay verification and safety inspection fees based on generator capacity and type:

  • Generators up to 100KW – $5.00
  • Generators above 100KW – $50.00
  • Advanced safety inspections for generators below 100KW – $20.00
  • Advanced safety inspections for generators above 100KW – $100.00
  • Prototype generators below 100KW – $100.00

ZETDC emphasized that these inspections are essential to prevent electrical fires, shocks, and other hazards caused by unsafe wiring and non-compliant installations.

“These inspections are not just procedural but a vital step in preventing potentially devastating consequences,” the notice read.

The power utility urged customers to comply and warned against making payments to individuals, stating that all fees must be paid through official channels with receipts issued accordingly.
