ZESA cable thief jailed for 10 years

CHINHOYI – A 29-year-old Chinhoyi resident from Shackleton Compound, Lionsden received a 10-year prison sentence for stealing ZESA armoured cables valued at $1 125.
Luckymore Mutsindiko appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrate’s for contravening the Electricity Act.
The State proved that on December 31, 2021, the accused person along with Clackson Mutsindiko who remains at large went to Athens Farm in Chinhoyi where they cut and stole a 30-meter-long, 50mm x 4mm core armoured cable.
This cable supplied electricity from the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company transformer to the pump house.
The court heard that the accused persons took the armoured cable to a nearby bush where they burned it to remove the insulation.
A security guard reportedly on patrol discovered the offense and gathered his team then tracked the spoor to a nearby bush where the accused person was discovered pulling the cable.
The accused person was arrested, while his accomplice managed to escape.
