ZAOGA’s Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University Face Demolition

ZAOGA’s Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University Face Demolition – A storm is brewing in Bindura as the future of the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU), founded by the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa (ZAOGA), hangs in the balance.
The university faces potential eviction and demolition after a default High Court ruling awarded the land to gold miner Mr. Charles Chakumba.
The case traces back to 2015 when Chakumba initiated legal proceedings, arguing that ZEGU was illegally built on mining claims—numbered 22441 and 22442—allocated to him in 1994 by the Ministry of Mines.
Represented by lawyer Mr. Vusani Bangidza, Chakumba asserted that the construction of the university on Barasse Farm had obstructed his legal right to mine.
The High Court ruled in his favour after ZAOGA and its lawyers failed to attend a pre-trial conference.
Justice Joseph Musakwa granted a default judgment, compelling ZAOGA to vacate the property.
In response, the church filed an urgent chamber application seeking to halt the enforcement of the order.
Represented by Debwe and Partners, ZAOGA said a clerical error by its legal secretary caused the missed court appearance—confusing March 3 with March 16.
The church is now requesting an interim interdict to prevent the eviction of students and staff or any destruction of university infrastructure until a rescission application is heard.
ZAOGA insists the land was legally allocated to it by the Bindura Municipality in 2008, in consultation with the Ministry of Local Government.
Additionally, the church argues Chakumba’s legal action came too late, beyond the three-year limit set by the Prescription Act.
“He became aware of ZEGU’s occupation in 2010, yet only served summons in 2015,” the church noted in its court documents.

Meanwhile, the controversy unfolds amid another headline involving ZAOGA. Apostle Eunor Guti, widow of the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, recently declined a lavish gift from businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo—reportedly a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR and US$250,000 in cash.
The gesture, announced by Chivayo on May 5, drew public attention and was widely shared on social media.
In his tribute, Chivayo described the late Archbishop as “a SPIRITUAL ROCK” and “one of the GREATEST GIFTS that Zimbabwe has ever had.”
However, Apostle Eunor reportedly turned down the offer, maintaining the humility and values her late husband upheld.
