ZANU PF Factional Wars Escalate as Chiwenga, Mnangagwa Camps Clash

ZANU PF fissures continue to deepen as rival factions loyal to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa battle for dominance.

The latest flashpoint in the party’s ongoing power struggle has seen Chiwenga’s allies accuse ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa of espionage and working against national interests.

The accusations follow the release of an explicit interview by Dug up in which Mutsvangwa dismissed Chiwenga’s chances of succeeding Mnangagwa, further exposing the widening divisions within the ruling party.

The latest development highlights tensions over ZANU PF’s succession politics ahead of the 2028 elections.

In this regard, a group identifying itself as the General Chiwenga Voluntary Supporters Association (GCVSA) has responded with a blistering attack on Mutsvangwa, accusing him of being a double agent working for foreign interests.

The group claims military intelligence has already linked Mutsvangwa to acts of sabotage aimed at undermining Chiwenga and the military’s influence in government.

“This intelligence confirms what many have long suspected—Mutsvangwa is not merely a loudmouth but an active saboteur working to weaken Zimbabwe from within,” said GCVSA Secretary-General Ntokozo Msipha in a statement.

“His attacks on General Chiwenga are not personal but part of a broader scheme orchestrated by foreign powers to dismantle true patriots and install their own puppets.”

The allegations reflect intensifying factional battles within ZANU PF, where rival camps are maneuvering for power.

Some senior party members have pushed for constitutional amendments to extend Mnangagwa’s rule, sidelining potential successors like Chiwenga.

Mutsvangwa, once instrumental in the 2017 coup that ousted longtime leader Robert Mugabe and brought both Mnangagwa and Chiwenga to power, now finds himself at odds with the faction backing the vice president.

His critics argue that he is betraying those who helped him rise to prominence.

GCVSA issued a stern warning to Mutsvangwa, accusing him of attempting to destabilize the party.

“The people of Zimbabwe are not blind. They see through your deception, Chris Mutsvangwa. You are not a kingmaker. You are a political opportunist who thrives on chaos,” the group stated as reportd by NewZimbabwe.

With tensions escalating, the ZANU PF leadership faces pressure to contain internal conflicts that could weaken its grip ahead of the next election cycle.

Whether Mnangagwa will act to silence dissent or allow the feud to fester remains to be seen.
