Zaka Rural District Council falls prey to USD15 000 fuel scam

MASVINGO – MITMIC Investments and its Director, Confidence Makau have been hauled before the Masvingo Magistrates Court on allegations of theft of trust property involving a huge $15 000 worth of fuel meant for Zaka Rural District Council’s road projects.

The complainant in this matter is Zaka Rural District Council while MITMIC, a Zaka Jerera-based fuel and oil retailer is the accused company.

The State alleges that on March 24, 2020, the company received ZWL$250 000 to supply 10,000 liters of diesel for road construction in the Nyabare area.

Allegations are that MITMIC Investments supplied 20,000 litres of diesel to Zaka Rural District Council for the Nyabare project. However, the council only utilized 4,664 litres, leaving a balance of 15,336 litres. When the council sought to collect the remaining fuel, MITMIC Investments allegedly failed to deliver.

The court heard that the complainant also received 5,875.98 litres of diesel under the Devolution project. However, when they attempted to collect the remaining 4,124.02 litres, the accused failed to deliver.

It is alleged that the accused closed business operations and failed to deliver the fuel since December 2020, thereby prejudicing Zaka Rural District Council of USD 15 000.

The matter will appear in court again on November 1, 2024.
