Worship Turns to War: ZCC Congregant Bludgeoned to Death During Service

ZAKA — A church service meant to unite worshippers ended in horror in Binduko Village under Chief Nyakunhuwa when a heated argument between two Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Judea members escalated into a fatal attack — leaving one man bludgeoned to death with a log and another under arrest.
The incident occurred during a routine evening service on October 25, attended by congregants from the local community.
Emmanuel Shangarai (23) and Sam Togara (33), both residents of Binduko, reportedly got into a heated argument while worship was in progress.
Witnesses say the tension escalated quickly, disrupting the service and drawing attention from fellow churchgoers.
In a fit of rage, Togara allegedly picked up a wooden log and struck Shangarai once on the head.
Shangarai collapsed immediately and died on the spot from severe head injuries.
Police were called to the scene, and the body was transported to Ndanga District Hospital for a postmortem.
Masvingo Province deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully, especially in places of worship.
The Mirror reported that the altercation shocked congregants who had gathered for prayer.
Togara was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with investigations.
Authorities have since secured the area and are continuing inquiries to determine what triggered the deadly confrontation.
The Binduko community has been left in disbelief, with many calling for calm and unity within religious spaces.
The tragedy has raised concerns about conflict resolution and emotional control during communal gatherings.
