Woman Sentenced for Burning Husband with Hot Water Over Phone Messages!
A 19-year-old woman from Makwika Village has been found guilty of domestic violence and assault by the Hwange Magistrate’s Court. The incident occurred on June 2, 2025, when the woman attacked her husband after he questioned her about suspicious messages on her phone.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, during the altercation, she slapped her husband, grabbed him inappropriately, and dragged him into the kitchen, where she poured boiling water on his lower body, causing serious injuries.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the police were notified. A neighbour who tried to help was also burned by the boiling water and required hospitalization.
The court sentenced the woman to 12 months in prison for domestic violence and 24 months for assault. However, 12 months of the assault sentence was suspended for five years, provided she behaves well. Additionally, she must complete 630 hours of community service.
Officials remind the public that violence, whether in the home or community, is unacceptable. The law applies to everyone, and offenders will face consequences. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urges citizens to resolve disputes peacefully and report any abuse. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, and anger is not a valid reason for violence.
