Woman Jailed for Falsely Accusing 10 Men of Rape

A 30-year-old woman named Stacey Sharples from Farnworth has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for falsely accusing ten men of rape.

She admitted to ten counts of perverting the course of justice related to allegations made between 2013 and 2019.

The accusations deeply impacted the lives of the men involved, many of whom reported losing their jobs, partners, and access to their children.

During the court proceedings at Bolton Crown Court, the victims explained how Sharples’ lies had “ruined” their lives.

The investigation into Sharples began when evidence continually contradicted her claims.

Police described her actions as a “continuous, willful making of false allegations,” acknowledging that she understood the serious consequences for the men she accused.

One victim, Reece Lockett, shared that his life was turned upside down by the accusations. He lost his parents, partner, and job and felt scared and labeled in his community.

Another victim, Connor Austen, said Sharples had “ruined seven years” of his life, causing him to lose his home and his job.

Andrew Jackson, another falsely accused man, expressed regret over missing important milestones with his daughter due to the allegations.

Most of the men had been arrested, some underwent intimate examinations, and all faced significant strain during the legal process.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gilliland praised the men’s resilience, stating they endured a traumatic experience with dignity.

He also encouraged any actual victims of sexual offenses not to let Sharples’ actions deter them from seeking help.-BBC
